Paul is a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and an accredited sport scientist (psychology) with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences. At university Paul is a senior lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology. As an academic Paul wrote one of the first undergraduate courses in Sport and Exercise Psychology that met with the BPS standards for GBR. He is widely published in both academic publications, and practitioner journals. He has also presented his applied research at both national and international conferences.
As an applied sport psychology practitioner Paul has over 10 years experience working as a sport psychologist with some of the best athletes in the world. Paul works with the English Institute of Sport providing sport psychology support to world class lottery funded athletes, based in the north-west, who are currently preparing for the both the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.
At the BPS Paul was elected onto the Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology committee in 2003. For BASES he is the Psychology Accreditation Rep, and also a supervised experience/accreditation reviewer. Paul plays an active role in both professional organisations and is governed by the strict BPS Code of Conduct. Paul maintains his practicing certificate as a psychologist by engaging in appropriate continual professional development.
